GM Diet!

I am not so much of a supporter of diets. I believe more in working out rather than in cutting one's intake. The missus is a proponent of dieting. And I usually fight with her over this.

But I heard about the GM diet a couple of days back. Anyone I spoke to about this had a good thing or two to say about it. So in a sudden pang, we decided to jump into it yesterday.

The version we're following is here.

My updates:

Day 1:
86 kg before the beginning of the diet.
All fruits day.
Was kinda tired of all the fruiting and pissing around all day! And had to suppress a lot of temptations :(

Day 2:
84.7 kg! 1.3 kg down in a single day!
Today's an all vegetables day.
It's evening, and slowly getting used to the diet.
It feels great though :)
More tomorrow..

Day 3:
85.2 kg :( Gone up a few hundred grams! Not worried though.. The first 4 days are only supposed to be preparation for the last three days of dieting, which is when the actual weight loss is supposed to happen. Lets see.

Day 4:
84.1 kg :) Ah! Back on track!

Day 5:
83.6 kg - Not a stellar fall from yesterday. Nonetheless its a fall at least!

Day 6:
83.1 kg - Things look great!! 3 kg in 5 days!!
But alas :( This was the last day of my diet :( Given that this is my Thalai Deepavali, couldn't really argue with the in-laws on the validity of my diet. So broke the diet today!

And didn't measure my weight for 3 more days. Kept feeding heavily on sweets and stuff. Finally reached 86 after all the munching on the occasion of Diwali. So am back at square one, but the diet prevented me from reaching 89! In that sense, was successful!!! And the inches I lost haven't come back (as yet). And now am quite conscious of the amount of food I take, and am able to say no anything, however tempting it might be!! So on the whole, I give this diet a thumbs up.

(Note: Some people complain against this diet, saying it might lead to side effects like loss of hair. I have always been losing hair rather fast, so I didn't notice anything odd)

Hey Vishwa,

Its common that when u check ur weight evryday there will be +2 or -2 difference... still have to diet a lott da ....

Vishwa , GM Diet will surely have a good result. I had tried it an year ago. It resulted in reducing 5.6kgs in a week. The result is totally dependent on following the diet course on time strictly without any violation. You require lots of patience and should keep yourself away from Junk Foods. All the Best !

I have no realtion towards diet, but i have seen some of my friends follow the GM diet. You live on a controlled for a week, but the important question is, how about after that - i mean after the week of GM diet?. It is the most important thing to sustain.

Vish you all the best for your diet buddy (note, and appreciate, the intended pun!)

A word of warning: for a lot of these 'crash' diets where you lose a lot of weight upfront, its mostly water loss

Din't know this GM diet craze exists in IIMB as well...

You may well lose 3 kgs, but its all water loss.. and could leave u feeling tired and emaciated. Really not very worth it. Working out... now you're talking!

As for +/- 2 kg, arunraj oda weight ku avan -2 kg aanaanna avan weight negative la illa pogum??

Never believed dieting.. I mean healthy dieting helping reduce so much weight.

I must try it once. :-) But, it would be tougher for guys like me than for a married man like you for whom missus will always take care of the diet. :-)

So no physical exercise involved in this?

Where is the day 6, 7 update?

When I saw the words 'GM Diet' in your GTalk status,I thought you had begun experimenting with the recently launched Bt Brinjal.

I tried this GM diet some time last year.Reduced 1.5 kg in 10 days.Gave it up since I switched to gym workouts later.

Dude!!
Even i have done GM dieting a couple of times da ...It does yield results temporarily but we tend to gain back the lost weight in a couple of weeks unless we follow it up with some exercise and a medium calorie diet regime thereafter...Ya it does give a head start...

Great stuff dude..you did the diet, you lost weight and you blogged about it as well...

In my case, I completed the full 7 day diet, didn't lose even a single gram (as there was nothing else left in me to lose), and still didn't blog abt it... :(

btw, got to know from some friend of mine that it's not a GM endorsed diet...somehow it's been called GM diet from beginning...just FYI... ;)

I am shocked to see an intelligent person follow such ridiculous diets. This is not the way to lose weight. This is a methoed doomed to fail. You only end up losing your muscle and body fluids when following such diets. At the best, it might help cleansing your system.

Weight loss needs a lifestyle change - being more active, exercising regularly, and eating right food in right quantities. In short, the ways to reduce weight are - increase metabolism by increasing muscles (anaerobic exercises like weight training, eating protein rich food etc. ), areobic and cardiovascular exercises to reduce fat (jogging, swimming etc. ), understanding daily calorific needs as per your body and adhering to it, eating in moderation and replacing high calorie unhealthy food with low calorie healthy food. Also small things can go a long way - climbing stairs instead of using lift, doing household chores, playing with kids etc.

@nalam virumbi.. I am shocked to see you consider me intelligent! :P
Anyway, you are absolutely right (about the diet I mean). I just jumped in on a sudden whim. Was interesting to experience it though.

And I am currently doing all that you mentioned in the second para - literally ALL :) And am seeing the results for myself. Thanks for that!
